The session will be offered Wednesday, May 13 via the Zoom platform and will run from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm. This program carries 6 (six) hours of continuing education credits. Program Topics:
AI and IA – AI is on everyone’s mind. We will provide sample use cases to streamline your internal audit work.
IA Best Practices – Reviewing fundamental internal audit practices can help any internal auditor, regardless of experience. We will share ideas, including how EQA (External Quality Assessment) requirements can help any institution.
Regulation W – Transactions with Affiliates – We will outline the scope of the regulation and provide suggested internal audit procedures for your institution.
Credit Risk – Credit risk is increasing. We will share ways to assess if the bank is being proactive in detecting, monitoring and mitigating this risk.
Regulatory Hot Buttons – During this session, we will discuss current regulatory issues and how the internal audit function can help detect these issues for your institution.
FDICIA Update – We will recap the changes based on the final rule dated November 2025 and how this impacts your institution.

About Our Presenters
G. Alan Landes, CPA, CIA | Partner – Financial Institution Services Group
Alan has over 32 years of public accounting experience, as well as work experience in the private sector in financial management. As a partner in Brown Edwards’ Financial Institution Services Group, he provides continuous support and value-added services to community banks throughout the Virginias, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Ohio.
Jason B. Ross, CPA | Partner - Financial Institution Services Group
Jason is a Partner in the Blacksburg office. He has over 20 years of public accounting experience. His focus has been providing accounting services to the financial services industry. He has worked with over 50 community banks and a number of SEC registrants ranging in size from $100 million to $3 billion. Jason has extensive experience with GAAP and SEC issues and assists clients in complex accounting issues, quarterly reviews, and with SEC filings.
Jennifer Theimer, CPA, CRCM | Director - Financial Institution Services Group
Jennifer is a director in the financial institution practice in the Roanoke office. She assists community banks with numerous professional services including SOX reporting and compliance, internal audit, external audit, BSA validations and regulatory compliance. Prior to joining Brown Edwards, she was the Chief Administration and Risk Officer (CARO) for a community bank for 11 years where she was responsible for managing strategic, financial and operational risks across the organization.
Andrew Shear, CPA | Senior Manager - Financial Institution Services Group
Andrew has over 8 years of public accounting and auditing experience, with exposure to internal and external audits of financial institutions, as well as consulting engagements for financial institutions (including loan review and regulatory compliance). Prior to entering public accounting, Andrew served as the Controller of a heavy equipment leasing company in West Virginia. He held that position for two years. Andrew is a member of the West Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has also authored articles that have been included in financial institution magazines.
Ben White, CPA | Director
Ben is in the Charleston office and has 16 years of experience in public accounting. He works exclusively with community banks. He has held the responsibilities for a bank audit engagement of planning, supervising staff , report preparation, and preparation of the consolidated tax return. He has worked with numerous community banks providing clients with a full range of professional services, including SOX and FDICIA reporting and compliance, internal audit, external audit, Bank Secrecy Act, Interest Rate Risk, and other compliance areas and consulting. He graduated from West Virginia Tech University magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a minor in Fraud Examination. He is a CPA in West Virginia, passing all parts of the exam the first time.
Chad Hammonds, CPA, CRCM | Senior Manager– Banking Practice
Chad is a senior manager at Brown Edwards specializing in internal audit, loan review, compliance testing, and various industry-related services. Chad works in the Firm’s Banking Practice, serving the needs of financial institutions in Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee markets. His background working within the bank regulatory and lending environments provided valuable hands-on experience with a first-hand perspective and understanding.
