Association Leadership :
Our Mission :
The Virginia Association of Community Banks is an organization whose members are the locally owned and operated banks in the
Commonwealth of Virginia. All members are dedicated to the principles of community banking.
The purpose of the Association is to assist its members in serving their shareholders, customers, employees and community
in a competent and profitable manner; to provide members the means to remain visible, progressive institutions; to represent
the membership by promoting a unified philosophy and to provide effective programs and services that include, but are not
limited to, legislative and regulatory lobbying, education, membership communication, and other areas which all have a unique
orientation toward community banking.
Many talented and dedicated individuals make this mission reality. They serve in the leadership roles identified on the pages linked
below. Many thanks go to each of them for making VACB a strong, responsive organization.

A Message From The Chairman :
"To My Fellow Bankers and Friends:
I would like to believe that my view of community banking is not much
different than the one shared by most community bankers throughout Virginia.
Community banks are the backbone and economic catalysts of the communities
we serve and we cannot allow the regulatory and congressional challenges
being thrown our way to cloud or minimize our importance. Nor can we allow
these challenges to destroy our desire to not only survive, but to thrive.
Our customers, our employees and our shareholders are all relying on us to
provide the leadership and strategic direction to present a strong and
common message that emphasizes the value community banks add to our quality
of life. By joining forces through the Virginia Association of Community
Banks and utilizing the talent and experience that Pat and her staff
possess, our collective voice will continue to be heard and we will continue
to make a difference.
We should also wholeheartedly support the ICBA's call to action urging
consumers and small businesses to "Go local by banking locally with your
community bank." Now is the perfect time to "go local" as consumers and
businesses alike will realize the many benefits that come with banking with
a community bank, such as a relationship-based banking experience, superior
customer service and the pride that comes with reinvesting in one's
community. There are distinct and significant differences between the large
banks and community banks and we should look to promote and take advantage
of these differentiations.
I consider it a distinct honor to have the opportunity to serve as your
chairman for 2012. My commitment to Pat, her staff and the membership is to
tell our story with passion and conviction. Our communities deserve and
critically need our unending support. There is no better time than now to
take full advantage of what this association can deliver in terms of
benefits to its members.
Sincerely,
Ellis L. Gutshall
2012 VACB Chairman
